Akamai, in the
Hawaiian language, means 'smart, clever or possessing savoir-faire'. That
is how I truly feel about this wonderful, endearing and misunderstood
breed; the
Rottweiler. They are loving, friendly, outgoing and they are
a trustworthy breed. I registered 'Akamai' as my kennel name with the
Canadian Kennel Club in 1999; that same year we became members of the
Rottweiler Club of Canada.
Our
kennel became Perm. Reg'd with the Canadian
Kennel Club in January 2010. So what does
that mean? It means that we have fulfilled
the requirements of the CKC which are 1.) we are
registered members in good standing of the CKC
for more than 10 years and 2.) we have bred 5 or
more dogs who have earned CKC granted titles and
3.) we have NEVER been subjected to disciplinary
action by the CKC.
We are
very proud of our young breeding program, this
being granted to us 3 months shy of our first
litter turning 5 years old!!

Together since 1995, my dogs and I have learned
the ins and outs of the dog world. Conformation shows and
obedience trials are a regular occurrence for our family.
My
husband, Darcy, has always come along to the shows in Calgary,
and now we are starting to enjoy taking our three young children to some shows too. They
love to see all of the different breeds of dogs - especially the strange
dogs with TAILS!!!
I have always
considered my dogs to be my fur-children, so they have always lived in my
home, with my skin-children. They lay on the couch and on the bed and
they 'Hoover' up all of the crumbs the kids drop on the floor. Because
the dogs live in our home, our litters will be very limited and carefully
planned out. They will also be raised inside our busy house where
socialization is of prime importance.

My main interest lies with obedience
training and trailing and it has been my focus since I began training
with my first dog, a Golden Retriever named Jessie, in 1995. I got hooked. I also got hooked on the Rottweiler while
attending my first set of obedience classes with Jessie. I knew that was
the breed for me, and so the story goes ..........
I am very proud to say that I
have put all of the training and working titles on all of my dogs.
We muddle through, learning together, but I would have it no other way!
Now, you can find me at most
dog shows beside the obedience ring, or waiting to run another of our
puppies through the conformation ring. We have met some great
people too and I have made some wonderful friends along the way.

The photo above represents where we
started - on the podium is our Jewel
and the sire of our first litter,
Caemon. Left to right is
Dax (Jewel and Caemon's son),
Seeker, in front of them
lying down is Ruckus, to
his right is Kalli,
(both Jewel and Caemon's grandkids) sitting up to her right is
Wicca (Jewel and
Caemon's daughter), and lastly, lying down to the right of Wicca is
Brogan (another
Jewel and Caemon grandson). This was taken in April 2008 in Red Deer.
Special thanks to Cathy French for her fast fingers on the camera for this
fantastic shot and to all of our dedicated owners who love our puppies!
I would like to send out special thanks to
Traci Geremia for all of her help over the years with showing my dogs
(without her help and handling, conformation would still be a mystery to
me) and
her friendship, to Marina Skoreiko for her friendship and again, help
with handling some of my dogs from time to time in conformation, and to my WONDERFUL trainers from my obedience club Cal-K9 Jackie Hastie
and Pauline Baldwin for their excellent guidance and training in the
sport of obedience. Without their help and encouragement I would
not have been able to achieve what I have with my dogs.
Our kennel is still
quite young, but I intend to do the best that I can to preserve this
wonderful breed in the future.

All of our dogs will be temperament
tested and receive their health clearances along with numerous titles
before they are ever bred.
As of 2009, we have had 5 litters of puppies,
the first 3 are represented in the photo at the right. In the photo is
our foundation bitch,
Jewel
(second from the left),
her daughter
Seeker
(to the left of her), her grandson
Ruckus (to the right of Jewel) and finally,
Moka, (on the
right beside Ruckus), who is both Jewel's daughter from our first
litter and Ruckus's mother. |

We have lots of big
plans for the future, but we will always remember where we started
from.
We are members of the Canadian Kennel
Club and the Rottweiler Club of Canada
and we adhere to the code of ethics of the clubs with regards to our
breeding practices.
If you have any questions about the
Rottweiler or anything dog related, please feel free to e-mail me and I
will do the best that I can
answer you. And keep checking back for updates, we are always very
busy here and a new title is always just around the corner!
